“The Mughal courts left their fingerprints on gold.”
The Story
Hyderabad was once the seat of the Nizams — the most lavish royal court in India after the Mughals. Their jewellery workshops attracted the finest craftsmen from Delhi, Lucknow, and Persia. The jumkas they made were not worn. They were worn like declarations.
The Hyderabadi jumka is tall and layered. The dome rises in tiers. The drops cascade in rows. The stones — often uncut diamonds in a setting called Kundan, where pure gold is hammered around each gem — catch light and throw it back in every direction.
What makes Hyderabadi work distinct is the weight of its history. These pieces were made for palaces. They carry that in every gram.
